Adult Services Assistant

The Evergreen Park Public Library is looking for a friendly, creative, and well-rounded reader with an exceptional customer service background to provide patron services for adults. This person will:

  • Participate in all operations of the Adult Services department, including reference, readers' advisory, collection maintenance, marketing, and outreach.
  • Design and execute a variety of print and digital promotions to stimulate increased use of library resources by adults.
  • Provide individual instruction and in-the-moment access to information in both print and digital formats.
  • Talk about and recommend books, movies, and music to the public.
  • Assist the public in basic computer (including common smartphone/tablet) and Internet functions, printing, scanning, and faxing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Must be available to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends, and that will change from time to time.
  • Previous experience working in a library highly desirable.

Hours and Wages

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt position of approximately 16-18 hours per week.
  • From $14.20/hour DOQ. No benefits except for pro-rated vacation time after one year.

Page/Shelver

Applications due by August 17 at 5 pm. Start date September 16, 2018

The Evergreen Park Public Library is looking for a dependable person to work as a page/shelver. This person will:

  • Sort, shelve, relocate, and search for library materials.
  • Read shelves for accuracy of order, re-shelving materials as needed.
  • Straighten library shelves daily or weekly as needed.
  • Provide simple directional information to patrons.
  • Perform simple physical tasks to support library programs or procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be minimum 16 years of age.
  • Must be available year-round, the following schedule: Wednesdays, 4 to 7 pm, Saturdays, 2 to 5 pm, and Sundays, noon to 3 pm.
  • Generally previous experience is not required, although preference may be given to Evergreen Park residents or people who have done work in the library as a volunteer.

Hours and Wages

  • 9 hours per week
  • $8.25/hour, no benefits
